A Whole New Mind

'A Whole New Mind' by Daniel H. Pink

It is better to re-direct Garr Reynolds's blog that introduces the book titled 'A Whole New Mind'. In addition to the introduction, he also shows us how to apply the concepts in the book to presentation. (The blog is one of my favorite ones to frequently visit, because it provides invaluable best practices in presentation. So, I want all of you to put the blog in your bookmark and to visit it to read the previous articles. Don't stop visiting the blog for the while it exists.)

The book written by Daniel Pink shows us six new minds for us to survive new competing environment. He introduces three critical factors (Abundance, Asia, and Automation) why the old minded people become less important at present and in the future. As an Asian, the second 'Asia' is not a good word to me, it should be replaced with 'Outsourcing'. Anyway, the old minded people, so-called left-brainers, are characterized as functional and logical. Such people were money-earner in the high-technology era. However, the future according to Pink is high-concept and high-touch era. It is true the high-technology (by left-brainers) will be still important. But, it will become a normal factor, not the critical factor in the future. One must be more sensitive to survive. ... As you know the left-brain plays the role of logical thinking, while the right-brain does the role of emotion. The future along with high technology requires people possessing high concepts and high touches. To be a person of high-concept and high-touch, the author suggests us to have new attitude to works -- design, stroy, symphony, empathy, play, and meaning. Such things are often govened by the right brain. However, the most important thing is to develop both brains hormonically. A balanced life to us.

Go to a bookstore, online or offline, pick the book, read it, and change your mind and your attitude. As Zig Ziglar said, 'It is your attitude, not your aptitude, that determines your altitude'.

Choices That Change Lives

"Choices That Change Lives" by Hal Urban

Our life is a sequence of endless choices -- yes or not, go or stay, and so forth. I don't want to be a perfect person. But I want to try to do good things not only for myself but also for my neighbors. This is one of my missions in this world, I think. Here is a good self-disciplinary book written by Hal Urban. At first, I read his other book titled 'Positive Words, Powerful Results: Simple Ways to Honor, Affirm, and Celebrate Life', so this is my second time to read his book. He introduces 15 ways for ourselves to find more purpose, meaning, and joy prepared for us -- by the Grace of God. I like his experience and wisdom. I also hope to share my experience and wisdom in future with others. So now is the time to prepare my life -- by just following much wisdom from my fathers. ... Anyway, the 15 items he lists may be universal or not. Nonetheless, they are worthy for us to read and practice. The items include humility, patience, empathy, giving, forgiveness, thinking, possibility, renewal, courage, excellence, mission, scripture, prayer, wisdom, and joy. They are not the only things we must to practice for our own future. They may be hard for us, including myself, to practice. But daily practice and remining may change our lives little by little. When I am old, I hope to be such a man. Even though I may not be a perpect one, but I wish to be a person who continuously practices such things. Choices are on us. And that change our lives.
